I want to share a really cool story and  this really cool image with you all today.

I had a senior session yesterday with a gorgeous, theater-performing senior from Union City High School, and we had planned to photograph part of her shoot at the actual theater where she performs frequently. However, no one told us that a pageant would be taking place at the same time we were planning to be there (insert slight internal freak-out as contestants were all over the back getting ready and guests were starting to arrive to be seated…fortunately, I work quickly), so we worked around them and under a time constraint.

We did a few shots in the theater seating area, stage, dressing room, and the prop/costume area. We planned to use the piano in the front entryway, but there were a stream of people coming in, so that was out of the question. Then we went into the prop/costume room, where she has spent a lot of her time, grabbed a few shots with the costumes, and then we saw the piano pushed to the side.

We pulled it out, and positioned it against the vast amount of wardrobe pieces and costumes, found a piano bench in a dressing room, and I had her sit down to play the piano (yes, she can actually play the piano!). I fired off a few shots for testing, got into position because I knew exactly what I wanted to capture, and this piece of gold was produced. She was surrounded by all the things she’s known for many years, a life she has cultivated into a lifelong dream of performing and a career path she will continue into college.

I’m not usually one to like a lot of clutter in my images, but this room, these clothes, this place she calls a second home could not have been a better choice to create such a beautiful piece of art for her to remember where she started. ❤️
