Photo-A-Day | Documenting my children throughout the year.

What was life like before technology?
Computers, smart phones, Kindles, iPads.
They most certainly have an indelible impact
On the lives of so many of today’s children.
We made the decision a while back
To limit their use.
And they also have been a great bargaining tool.
Technology is great.
Phenomenal.
Completely amazing.
But, we don’t want you to be consumed with it.
You have legs,
Go outside and run around.
You have arms,
Throw a ball across the yard.
You have brains,
Think about what makes clouds move around.
I want you to use your imagination –
Wonder about the stars,
Why does it rain,
How does the sun know when to rise,
Just think.
And you all do a good job of thinking,
Wondering,
Asking,
Asking,
Asking all the time.
So, because I know your brains are churning,
I do succumb to your technology desires.
I mean, I’m a techie at heart.
And I love having a lot of resources
Available to me
With a few strokes of the keyboard.
It’s interesting, and chock full of information,
And you all watch funny stuff on YouTube.
(With my careful eye overlooking).
So, a Saturday morning at the breakfast table
Using flash cards,
Well, the digital kind anyway,
Is just fine by me.
Your eyes are recognizing everyday treasures,
And that helps your brain too.
I am witnessing your vocabulary
And intelligence expand.
And it’s a sweet bonding experience
Between you and your big sis.
The technology is amazing,
But so is the more powerful human bonding experience.
