Photo-A-Day | Documenting my children throughout the year.

“Five little monkeys,
Jumping on the bed.
One fell off and bumped her head.
Momma called the doctor,
And the doctor said…”

This bed brings such joy to all of you.
It’s a make-shift trampoline,
(Until I catch you and then it’s time to get off of it!),
It provides comfort and peace,
A place to tell stories,
Some familiar place of home,
And a place to snuggle to watch movies.
Tonight, I introduced you all to
“Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead”
And I think you all thought it would be
SCARY. And filled with HORROR.
But you found a funny movie,
About a big sister having to care for her younger siblings
For the summer.
I loved this movie when I was a kid.
Well, teenager.
But it still rings true to me,
About taking care of little ones.
Providing for them,
Clothing them,
Scolding them,
And coming together as a team
When being a team is all there is to be.
You all are my team.
My little ball players.
My supportive cheerleaders,
My little bodies of comfort to snuggle
When I’m having a bad day.
We somehow make room in a king-size bed,
Sometimes fighting about who will lie next to me,
Scratch that.
There is always a fight about that.
I wonder how I got so lucky to feel so loved,
even at my weakest, lowest points in life.
Motherhood was something I never really considered
Until I was a mother.
And now, I wonder how my life even existed
Before each of you were formed from me.
This bed knows many stories,
Lots of love,
Feet in faces,
Arms wrapped in ways untold,
Legs stretched over numerous other limbs,
And endless amounts of hugs and snuggles.
Truth be told,
With a little sleep as I seem to get,
I don’t really miss it that much.
But I will miss these nights –
Restless nights,
Wake-up-to-sickness nights,
Movie nights,
Crying nights –
So, sure, can you sleep with me tonight?
You sure can.
I can sleep on 6 inches of bed.
